The moment your baby arrives is life-changing, it’s a combination of sudden overwhelming love mixed with pure exhaustion! It’s a huge physical and emotional adjustment. But what often isn’t talked about enough is what happens after birth, the real recovery that unfolds slowly, often quietly, once you’re home.
Whether you’ve had a natural birth, a planned C-section, or an unexpected delivery, the recovery period is just that, a recovery! Your body has been through an incredible transformation. Your hormones are shifting, your sleep is broken (or non-existent), and you’re figuring out how to care for a brand new human being while healing yourself.
And here’s the truth: there’s no ‘right’ way to feel.
Some days you might feel like you’ve got it all together and some kind of routine is forming. Other days you might be overwhelmed, sore, and wondering if things will ever feel normal again. That’s okay. Every parent’s experience is different, and every recovery is valid.
There’s often so much pressure to “bounce back,” be out and about, or feel like you should be doing more. But in reality, slowing down is powerful. Antenatal recovery is a time to rest, reset, and gently get to know your baby, and yourself as a parent. Try to enjoy a time where you really don’t have to do much and you have a perfect excuse.
It’s also okay to ask for help. From partners, family, friends, or professionals, you don’t have to do this alone.
And what about photos? “I want them… but I don’t feel ready.”
I hear this a lot.
So many parents want beautiful newborn photos, but feel hesitant – “I haven’t slept,” “I don’t feel like myself,” “I’m still healing.”
That’s exactly why my sessions are designed with recovery in mind.
🌿 My studio is calm, warm, and quiet.
🍼 You don’t need to do anything except arrive.
💛 You’re welcome exactly as you are.
You don’t need to dress up. You don’t need to look “photo ready.” You don’t even need to be in the photos unless you want to be (though I always gently encourage it – because these days matter for you to look back on in the future). My approach is gentle, baby-led, and completely unpressured. I’ve had parents get so relaxed that they say they could easily nod off during sessions, feed as needed, or simply sit quietly and enjoy the pause.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about preserving the moment, and I can do that for you. I have photographed hundered of newborn babies over the last decade. I am happy to take over and do whatever is necessary (or if you prefer to get involved that’s fine too!)
These early days just pass by so quickly, even in the middle of the recovery fog. And while it might not feel like the “perfect” time, often it’s the most meaningful time to capture.
If you’re expecting a baby or have recently welcomed one, I’d love to help you freeze a few of these tender early moments – in a way that feels relaxed and manageable.
You can book in advance with a due date, or if baby is already here, just send me a message to check availability. I try to leave space for last-minute sessions whenever possible.
Because you deserve to be seen, remembered, and supported, exactly where you are.
Don’t miss the moments… whilst they are tiny.
